It's hard to ignore the fact there is a presidential election underway. This election is unprecedented?the Democratic nominee is a Black American and the Republican Vice Presidential nominee is a woman. Finally some change.
One of the positive side effects of this campaign is the fact that it has more young people interested in politics for the first time. But the caveat is that young people don't vote. And there is no excuse for it. Voting is the most precious and important right we have as Americans. The American youth treat voting as a burden, and it has to change.
It is no exaggeration to say people have died over the right to vote. Millions of people cannot vote because of oppressive governments. It was only 1920 when American women obtained the right to vote. In Saudi Arabia, women can't even drive. Think about that.
Oct. 15 is the last day to register to vote in Massachusetts. Yes, Mass. will probably go to the Democrats as always, but that does not diminish the value of a ballot. Each ballot represents a voice. A voice, who is free and independent.
Each vote is a message to the
government that the public cares.
The people who don't vote can't complain about what happens in the country. The people who didn't vote, eight or four years ago share a small fraction of the blame for the state of the country right now because they didn't care enough to try to change it.
Our government is at war to bring democracy to another nation. If people don't even practice democracy at home, what does that say about us? So go register, and go vote.
