On Sept. 29, gate D at Fenway Park opened up at 3:30 p.m. and the festivities officially started with food, drinks, and a live jazz band to celebrate the Red Sox Playoff Rally. NESN sports announcers Tom Caron and Lou Merloni hosted the event and interviewed players like Jason Bay, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis and manager Terry Francona. Wally even stopped by for some photo opportunities. The park was surging with energy from the most loyal citizens of Red Sox Nation.
Once all the interviews were done, every fan in Fenway headed out to the street to see the team off. Three buses awaited the players, along with a crowd of photographers and a sea of fans screaming their names. The buses departed at around 5:30 p.m. in the midst of a cloud of confetti, and "Soxtober" had officially begun.
